Description : Chapter 4
His hair was short, he had glasses on and was dressed like how he used to dress. His jeans weren't skin tight and they were ripped in various places. She tried not to die right there in the parking lot as she knew he wasn't expecting ANYONE to recognize him. So she stood there taking him in for a second. She could tell he was nervous, and everything made sense to her.
Shannon: Yes?
Joe: You work here, right?
Shannon: Uh... yeah! I do. Are you looking for a job? *She crossed her fingers in her head and hoped to God he was gonna say yes.*
Joe: Yeah. But, I don't know if I'm qualified or not.
Shannon: What? You've never had a job? *For some reason, she really had the urge to help him lie so he wouldn't scare off.*
Joe: No, I never have.
Shannon: Oh, well, how old are you? *Duh!*
Joe: Almost 20.
Shannon: What, are you some rich kid that's been spoiled all his life?
Joe: No! *He thought about it, he hadn't really worked on a back story.* Well, I guess, kinda.
Shannon: That's ok. What's your name?
Joe: I'm Joe. Jooooones. *It's not the same as Jonas...*
Shannon: Joe Jones? Sounds funny together... Well, I dunno Joe... How badly do you want to work here?
Joe: Is it a good place to work?
Shannon: It's easy, and most of the people here are pretty nice and a lot of them are older than me. *She threw that in in case he didn't want to work around a bunch of young people.* I like it.
Joe: Well, then I guess I'll give it a shot.
Shannon: Ok, if you PROMISE me that you'll work hard and do a good job, then I'll put in a good word for you. Ok? I'll tell them that I know you. I have a bit of a pull around here, even though I'm late, but when I'm not, they love me. So, have you ever filled out an application before?
Joe: Actually, no.
Shannon: Well, come on inside. I'll help you. *She remembered that there had been three people standing outside and thought, Kevin and Nick. She looked over at them.* Are those your friends? Did they wanna apply too?
Joe: Oh, no... those are my brothers. Here, I'll introduce you to them. *He started walking towards Kevin and Nick and Shannon could hardly believe how calm and cool she was acting when she really felt like asking Joe to hand her her heart pills. Not that she had heart pills, but that's what she felt like.* Guys, this is... what's your name?
Shannon: Oh, right! I'm Shannon Davis. *She smiled really big and held her hand out for Joe to shake. He shook it and as soon as he touched her she felt like saying, "Oh my goodness, sparks!"
Joe: Shannon these are my brothers... Kevin, *She shook his hand.* And Nicholas in the car there. *Shannon could tell he didn't fully approve, but he was polite enough to shake Shannon's hand.*
Nick: It's nice to meet you, Shannon.
Shannon: You too, Nick! Well, Joe, let's go fill out that application. *She shook Kevin and Nick's hands again as she said goodbye and Joe followed her into the front doors of the building.* Go ahead and sit over there, I'll get you an application. *She went up to the front desk where the night crew security guard was working.* Hey Steve, can I get an application for my friend here?
Steve: Aren't you like 30 minutes late?
Shannon: Well... yeah! But, I'm gonna help him out with this real quick and then get back there.
He handed her a clipboard and she walked over to where Joe was sitting. He was really nervous, and she could see it all over his face. He was even sitting on his hands. Everything about him said, "Oh my gosh! I'm not sure if I can do this". And as worried and anxious as he looked, he still made Shannon's heart melt. She was no longer mad or sad and she really felt like she'd be able to help him. It wasn't hard for her to determine what he was after... normalcy... and she was good at pretending that! She sat down next to Joe and helped him fill out his application. She noticed that he wrote Jonas on the paper, but decided not to point it out. After he was done, she wrote her name at the top so that the manager would know she recommended him. Even though she still planned to speak with them anyway on his behalf.
Joe: So that's it?
Shannon: That's it! *She lowered her voice so that Steve wouldn't hear her.* It was nice meeting you Joe Jones. I'll see you soon! *She smiled a friendly smile at him. Although her eyes had love in them.*
Joe: *He smiled back at her. He felt lucky that he had run into her, otherwise he might not have ever come in. They both stood up.* Thank you so much! Really. *He leaned in and hugged her tight, which surprised Shannon a little. But, she went with it and tried not to drool on his shoulder.*
Shannon: Anytime, Joe Jones.
As he walked out of the front doors to his brothers, Shannon prayed that it wouldn't be too long before he got hired. She really wanted to see him again. She didn't like the fact that while her eyes had love in them, his eyes had pain and anxiety.
